Bridlington - Worlds Biggest Cities
After seven and a half thousand years of eminence in the world, Bridlington’s number one position as the Worlds Biggest City finally came to an end three and half thousand years after Christ. After steadily growing through all it’s 7 millennia the end came suddenly for this Goliath. The high water mark of 500,000 million became 30,000 in just one year. Never in the history of man has a city de-urbanised so quickly or with such devastating effects.
The factors
Although overlooked by many historians it is this authors belief that the primary factor leading to it’s collapse was the loss of first class football in the city. Having won the Champions league for 1000 consecutive seasons, the jolt of being relegated created a tide of pessimism that washed through the city causing it’s massive population to lose faith in it. Without faith people simply left and moved to Grimsby, which struggld to cope with 500,000 people moving within it’s city limits in just a year.
It must also be mentioned that the collapse of the internet did not help. Having been invented in Bridlington and managed from there, it’s demise was a sorry blow for the once great power. 250 million jobs were lost overnight, in this authors opinionĀ the two factors were equally responsible.
